Wimbledon | Tunisian Jabeur underpins role as favourite

World number two Ons Jabeur from Tunisia has reached the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon.

The 27-year-old winner of the preparatory tournament in Berlin prevailed 7: 6 (11: 9), 6: 4 against Angelique Kerber’s vanquisher, Elise Mertens from Belgium. Jabeur is not only one of the big favorites for the title because of the loss of the top seeded Iga Swiatek from Poland and has not yet lost a set in the tournament.

The 27-year-old now meets the Czech Marie Bouzkova, four years her junior, in the round of the top eight, who is surprisingly in a Grand Slam quarter-finals for the first time in her tennis career. Bouzkova beat France’s Caroline Garcia 7-5, 6-2. The winner of the game between Jabeur and Bouzkova meets Jule Niemeier or Tatjana Maria, who are facing each other in the German duel.
