Wimbledon, Kyrgios beats Tsitsipas and goes to the second round

Nick beats the Greek in four sets, but in the game there were moments of tension and shots in the stands

Two flammable characters, the quarrelsome one of Nick Kyrgios and the provocative one of Stefanos Tsitsipas, give life to the game of sparks. To come out unscathed, despite the shot taken to the body, is the Australian who, without ever losing the serve (5 break points canceled out of 5) knocks out his rival and wins in four sets or rather four very long boxing rounds: 6- 7 6-4 6-4 7-6 in 3 hours and 17 minutes. It is a head to head from the very beginning, a game of chess in which every move is the predictable response of the opponent.

Sparks

In the second set, at 4-5, Tsitsipas offers his rival a set point: the Australian passer-by scores. Angry Tsitsipas, sends a shot to the stands and all hell happens. Kyrgios demands the disqualification, calls the supervisor on the pitch, but the game resumes with a warning for the Greek. At each change of court, Kyrgios argues with the chair referee, Damien Dumosois, without losing his temper: at 2-1 to give head is Tsitsipas who suffers the break and then throws another ball towards the back cover after Kyrgios he needs it from below for 4-1. The Greek is very nervous, he suffers the penalty point, tries to hit Kyrgios with a ball but does not take either the player or the field. With 2 aces the Greek climbs 3-5, but the Aussie can be used to close the fraction. Kyrgios opens with an ace, then Tsitsipas, in an attempt to recover a short ball, hits him in the body. Kyrgios is flawless, he is graced by two lucky ribbons, he bows and seals the set for 6-3.

What a fight!

In the first game of the fourth set the match catches fire: Tsitsipas recovers from 0-40, cancels four break points and then saves himself after Kyrgios ends up on the ground. The audience is for Kyrgios who always plays very carefully. On 3-3 Kyrgios scores with a straight passer along the line for 15-40. They are two break points that are worth gold: Tsitsipas cancels the first with a slice and then closes the net with a forehand volley. On 4 all the game is suspended to close the roof. At 4-5 Kyrgios courageously saves a set point and drags himself to the tie-break with the 14th ace of the match. On 4 equal Kyrgios but the mini break, he returns it but still reaches the match point on the Greek’s service. However, Kyrgios’ backhand ends up in the corridor, certified by the hawk and the Greek then wins the second set. At the net, with a fantastic forehand stop volley, Kyrgios cancels the second set point and then climbs 8-7 with an exchange of 9 shots. The last point is a Kyrgios winning forehand that Tsitsipas doesn’t control. Kyrgios will find the American Brandon Nakashima in the second round.
