Wim Dik (83) passed away: the man who changed the PTT into KPN

Former KPN CEO Wim Dik passed away on Sunday. The 83-year-old Helvoirtenaar had been ill for some time. From 1989 to 2000, Dik was the first chairman of the board of directors of Koninklijke PTT Nederland (KPN). His main task was to transform the former state-owned company into a successful publicly traded company. Until 2009 Dik was also chairman of the Regional Broadcasting Brabant Foundation.

Dik also had other jobs in the corporate world. For example, he worked for Unilever and was director of soup factory Unox. After leaving KPN, he was a professor in Delft.

Dik was also closely involved with D66. He was, among other things, vice chairman of that party and chairman of the scientific bureau. He was also very active for D66 in Vught, including the merger of Helvoirt and Vught.

The Hague career
Furthermore, Dik had a short career as a politician. In the early 1980s he was State Secretary for Economic Affairs on behalf of D66 in the Van Agt II and III cabinets. In that position he was in charge of foreign trade and export promotion.

On Monday 27 June at 1 pm Wim Dik will be said goodbye in the Nicolaaskerk in Helvoirt.
