Pole vault 2022 European champion Wilma Heltelä (nee Murto) suffers from a head injury.

– Under the guidance of experts in the field, Wilma is recovering and moving forward moderately, says the athlete’s manager Tero Heiska.

MTV reported before May Day, that Heltelä, 27, was injured in the gym a few weeks ago. The athlete was hit in the head by the disc bar during an unsuccessful repetition. As a result of the accident, Heltelä was diagnosed with a concussion.

– It takes time to recover from something like that. Little by little towards something better, Heiska commented.

Finland’s biggest athletics event Paavo Nurmi Games announced in April that Heltelä will compete on June 3 at the Turku sports park.

– There are still plans for Wilma to compete in Turku.

Warm up published an update on Tuesday eveningwhere he comments on his situation in a hopeful tone.

– In training, I have had to pass around after the main stable and be patient and creative. It’s been a few very long weeks, but now, fortunately, the spring light is starting to shine on that pile of rags as well. That the devil will come here!

The pole vaulter, who suffered from various health problems in recent years, was able to compete four times in the 2026 hall season. The results were moderately in the 446-460 centimeter range. The athlete’s indoor record is 481 centimeters from 2024, before the start of the problem cycle.

On outdoor tracks, a woman has exceeded 485 centimeters at her best in the 2022 EC final. The best result of the 2024 outdoor track season was 470 and last season’s was 445 cents.

The pole vaulter recently got married and changed her last name from Murro to Heltela.

The athlete will be coached in the 2026 season by a former javelin champion Tero Pitkämäki43, and a 29-year-old pole vaulter Tommi Holttinen.
