It would be much better for Joey Veerman to continue playing for PSV for another six months and then make a nice transfer to England. The Van de Kerkhof brothers give him this wise advice in the Willy and René Podcast of Omroep Brabant. “Stay with PSV,” Willy advises. “Turkey is a beautiful holiday country, he better go to England in six months.”
Brother René also thinks that Veerman will not be happy as a footballer in Turkey. “The Turkish mentality is very different from the Dutch. In away games you face not only the opponents and the audience, but also the referees. I also have to see that he goes. That chairman does not seem to be completely clean and he is the one who has to pay all that money.”
But what if Veerman does not follow the wise advice of the Van de Kerkhof brothers and does leave for Turkey? Then the two are also clear about his succession. “Then PSV does not have to buy a replacement,” says Willy. “We have plenty of good players. I saw Fernandez play football, give him the chance.” René would also solve it internally. “Put Saibari in Veerman’s place and it will be solved.”
“That second yellow card for Schouten was really unimaginable.”
The constant topic of discussion among the brothers is arbitration. “It is truly unimaginable that Schouten receives his second yellow card from Nijhuis,” says Willy. “Then you could give a yellow card 25 times. And what happens with that Utrecht goal… That right winger lies with his stomach on the ball. That is simply not allowed according to the rules. But I wish Bas a Merry Christmas, then he can think about his sins. Maybe he still had fireworks in his ears.”
René also did not understand the red card for Schouten. “That boy would never hurt a fly and what he did happened all the time. It was hopeless with the referees anyway. That red card at NEC-Ajax was ridiculous. Where was that boy supposed to put his leg? And at Fortuna-AZ the referee was only trying to be interesting. It’s a pity that so few ex-professionals become referees. They would have a much better sense of the game. Maybe the referees can read the rules again during Christmas.”
“It’s understandable that André Ooijer is quitting.”
Other news from the weekend is that André Ooijer will immediately resign as assistant coach of PSV. “I saw that coming,” says Willy, who is Ooijer’s former father-in-law. “He has set up a new company with his new girlfriend and it is going very well. I understand that you cannot also focus on football seven days a week.”
The wavering competition is also discussed in the podcast, in particular Feyenoord coach Robin van Persie. “They would be wise to put an old hand next to him,” says René. “I hope he makes it, but if he loses a few more times in the new year then it will end.”
