In theory it could still be a great season for PSV, but the figures do not lie: the people of Eindhoven have had a five -point behind Ajax since Sunday. “It will be very difficult now,” notes Club Coryfee René van de Kerkhof in the Willy and René Podcast from Omroep Brabant about the Titlekansen van PSV.

“If you see Ajax playing on Sunday, it was really not good. But also opponent Go Ahead Eagles did not make it true. And then PSV also has to visit Twente and Feyenoord.” Last week brother Willy already expressed the expectation that Ajax will no longer give the lead away. “But it can still be a very nice end to the competition.”

Despite the gloom about the title opportunities, the brothers still experienced a nice PSV week, culminating in the sizzling Champions League match against Juventus. The Noa Lang, which is also much criticized by the brothers, showed itself from a completely different side. “He just played well. He played with his heart and played for the team,” says René enthusiastically.

“Then he also had that fantastic action from which Perišic scores. That’s how we like to see him play and now he can also say ‘Ssst’ to us.” In addition, René makes the same ‘mouth closed’ gesture that long recently made against the PSV audience, which came to stand on a lot of criticism, not the last place of Willy and René. Now, for the time being, the brothers has also silenced. “Very good Bruur,” says Willy in agreement.

Another best against Juventus was the mentioned Perišic. “The intensity he puts in his game can everyone take an example,” says René admiringly about the 36-year-old Croat. “But with 36 you have not yet written off, beware,” says Willy, who himself was still active for PSV at the age of 36.

This week PSV strengthened himself with the 36-year-old Spaniard Lucas Pérez. “I honestly don’t know him, I have never seen him play,” says Willy. I go out of it Earnest Stewart and his people know what they are doing. Perhaps he has been achieved for the last thirty to forty minutes. “In the Champions League, Pérez is not entitled to play. Yet the brothers see plenty of opportunities against Arsenal without the new striker.” We always play well against English clubs, “says Willy.

The same Go Ahead Eagles that lost last weekend to Ajax is now the opponent of PSV twice within a few days. First on Wednesday in Eindhoven in the semi-final of the KNVB cup, three days later in Deventer for the competition. “Beware, that’s a difficult team,” warns René. “Especially when they play at home.” Yet Willy and René both expect PSV to win twice.

“A bit of a shame about the old stadium.”

In the meantime, football history is also being written in the hometown of Willy and René. Helmond Sport will play his last game in the old stadium on Monday evening. “I have been busy with that new stadium for years. Now it is almost that time,” says Willy. Especially with René, feelings of nostalgia are emerging. “As amateurs in 1967 we played an opening game with Mulo against Helmond Sport. We won that 3-0. Later I also played at Helmond Sport under Jo Jansen. A great guy and we had a nice team . ” The brothers find it a pity somewhere that the old stadium is disappearing. “But yes, that’s time.”
