He played with his heart and played for the team,” says René enthusiastically.
“Then he also had that fantastic action from which Perišic scores. That’s how we like to see him play and now he can also say ‘Ssst’ to us.” In addition, René makes the same ‘mouth closed’ gesture that long recently made against the PSV audience, which came to stand on a lot of criticism, not the last place of Willy and René. Another best against Juventus was the mentioned Perišic. “The intensity he puts in his game can everyone take an example,” says René admiringly about the 36-year-old Croat. “But with 36 you have not yet written off, beware,” says Willy, who himself was still active for PSV at the age of 36.
This week PSV strengthened himself with the 36-year-old Spaniard Lucas Pérez. “I honestly don’t know him, I have never seen him play,” says Willy. Helmond Sport will play his last game in the old stadium on Monday evening. “I have been busy with that new stadium for years. Now it is almost that time,” says Willy. Especially with René, feelings of nostalgia are emerging. “As amateurs in 1967 we played an opening game with Mulo against Helmond Sport. We won that 3-0. Later I also played at Helmond Sport under Jo Jansen. A great guy and we had a nice team . ” The brothers find it a pity somewhere that the old stadium is disappearing. “But yes, that’s time.”
