Willibrord Frequin made the high-profile SBS 6 show for years the Week of Willibrord, in which he bite himself in injustice and absorbed for the weak in society. It was confrontation TV, as we know it a bit from Tim Hofman and are angry. However, the 80-year-old TV maker was a bit spicier.

Annoying man

Media journalist Mark Koster thinks that such a thing in 2025 is no longer possible on television. “The Week of Willibrord would definitely not be possible anymore,” he says in the podcast The Media Week.

That is a good thing too, his co-host Tina Nijkamp responds. For years she was the channel boss of SBS 6. “No, I have to say: I have always found that a very annoying program. I found Willibrord really very annoying. Really one of the most annoying programs. It was such a annoying man.”

Brutal

Tina found that man horrible. “I always found that so brutal that I thought: What is you? He was so proud of that. I thought it was such a self -righteous brutal. I thought it was a very annoying program. A very annoying man. Happy for my time, because otherwise I would have taken him from the tube just like Ton van Royen.”

Would she have really fired Willibrord if it was at SBS 6 in her time? “Certainly, I really thought it was too rancid.”

Viewing canon

But Willibrord was a viewing figure cannon, isn’t it? “Well, was that? It was disappointing. Everyone pretends that it was a viewing figure cannon, but I didn’t score that big. I think that was quite disappointing. It wasn’t such a big hit at all. That was really not a farmer seeking woman.”

“I only thought it was the effect. I just thought it was a very annoying program and that he went after it and then very indignant when he was chased. Very very crowded too. I thought that was such a annoying program that Pieter Storms-thing. I thought it was all of those self-righteous males.”

Bravado

Breekijzer and Willibrord are really very SBS? “Yes, that was SBS at the time, but I removed it all. Well, that had already stopped, but I didn’t think about Ton van Royen anymore.

So Ton, the ex-husband of Heleen van Royen, has she fired hard? “Well, I know he had very few episodes a year and I couldn’t look at it either. No, we let that end, yes.”
