Willian breaks contract after death threats: ‘I did not return for this’ | Football

After fourteen years in Europe, Willian returned to his home country last summer with his youth club Corinthians. He still had a contract there until the end of 2023, but that agreement has now been terminated by mutual agreement.

“I did not return to be threatened,” the Brazilian admitted Globe Esporte explanation of his departure. “When Corinthians lost a game or I didn’t play well, my family received death threats and ranting on social media. At first they targeted my wife and daughters, after a while my father and sister were also bombarded with messages.”

What now? Willian is certainly not done with professional football yet. He would like to return to Europe, but has no club for the time being. There would be interest from Fulham, a PhD student in the English Premier League, among others.
