Willem II – NAC finally stopped after fans throw objects on the field: ‘A black afternoon’ | Dutch football

The duel between Willem II and NAC Breda in the Kitchen Champion Division has been definitively discontinued. This happened after referee Edwin van de Graaf had to stop the match for the second time in the 50th minute because objects had been thrown onto the field from the stands. NAC now led 3-0 in Tilburg.

Normally, a duel is definitively stopped at a second forced break, but the local triangle also has a say in this. In the first half, the game was also stopped immediately after the second Breda goal. Both times objects (cups, fireworks) were thrown from the section where the most fanatical Willem II fans have a place.

Van de Graaf explained to ESPN from the catacombs of the King Willem II stadium how the decision had come about. ,,It is a pity, but when objects are thrown on the field, there is a clear protocol. After that second time, when a torch was thrown on the field, there was still room to find out the perpetrator. Unfortunately, that did not work out and we had to stop the game permanently.”

Willem II captain Heerkens speaks of ‘black afternoon’
Freek Heerkens was ‘faced with shame’ after the abandoned match between his team and NAC Breda. “What we showed on the field had nothing to do with football and I can be brief about the peripheral matters, they also had nothing to do with football,” he said in front of the camera of ESPN. “It was a very bad afternoon, a black afternoon.”

It is not yet known what will happen to the remainder. The game may be played without an audience on Wednesday. NAC led 3-0 thanks to goals from the Swede Patriot Sejdiu, the Norwegian Sigurd Haugen and the Belgian Jan Van den Bergh.

Three hundred NAC fans were also present in the adjacent section at the Brabant derby. Last year, no fans of the away party were welcome at the mutual duels.

However, it is not the first time that things go wrong in a match between these two teams. In April of this year, the game NAC – Willem II was definitively stopped and later played out after fireworks and beer were thrown towards the field.

ADO records a big win

ADO Den Haag has the first home win of the season. Young AZ was defeated 4-1 in a sun-drenched Bingoal Stadium thanks to four identical goals. The team was helped along the way by brand new purchase Jort van der Sande.
