Willem II suffered a sensitive defeat at home against direct competitor FC Groningen. The Tilburgers got three goals in the first 21 minutes. They no longer repaired that quick backlog. Jesse Bosch still saved the honor on behalf of Willem II: 1-3.
Both teams had 24 points for the match. Now FC Groningen has 27, with eighth place in the Eredivisie as a result. Willem II is in fifteenth place with three points less.
After the 1-1 at PSV in Eindhoven, Willem II trainer Peter Maes hoped to have turned the downy spiral after the winter break, but the start in Tilburg was terrible on Saturday evening. Or was FC Groningen so sharp?
The visitors overwhelmed the Tilburgers in the beginning. A marker from Luciano Valente was taken off the line, but in the Rebound Dave Kwakman his first goal for FC Groningen against the ropes.
Ten minutes later it was already 0-2 and again Valente was involved. The midfielder put well before and Stijn Resink found the far corner. With a hard drop-kick, Tika de Jonge completed the Groningen trilogy in the 21st minute.
Treffer Bosch not enough
After this triple thumping, Willem II had to take risks to make something of the evening, but the home team did not get any further than opportunities for Kyan Vaesen and Cisse Sandra.
FC Groningen achieved peace with a positive margin of three goals. Willem II needed a quick goal in the second half to get hope and he received the home team. Jesse Bosch joined Thijmen Blokzijl and shot in the far corner: 1-3.
It did not come to a miraculous resurrection. FC Groningen booked his second victory in a row, Willem II must continue to wait for the first victory of the calendar year.
