Willem-Alexander promises to go to Ukraine with Evgeniy Levchenko

The two made that appointment on Tuesday afternoon when the royal couple spoke with people from the Ukrainian community. Willem-Alexander and Máxima were deeply touched by these heartbreaking conversations.

Grateful for the support

On Instagram, Evgeniy shares a photo of the meeting. On this, the king is holding a yellow and blue shirt of the Ukrainian national football team. He thanks the royal couple for the conversation. “Thank you, Your Majesty Willem-Alexander and Máxima for your time, your solidarity and support for Ukraine,” writes the former football player, who played eight international matches for his country of birth.

Together to Ukraine

He also tells about the agreement he made with the king. “The deal is, as soon as the war ends (no doubt we are going to win) we will go together to Ukraine and give this shirt to President Zelensky.”

When Ukraine was invaded by Russia last week, our king and queen said in a statement that they “deeply sympathize” with the people there. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked them for that support.

State visit postponed

On Tuesday, the Government Information Service announced that because of the war between Russia and Ukraine, the royal couple has postponed their state visit to Greece. Willem-Alexander and Máxima would go here from Wednesday 16 to Friday 18 March.
