Will you soon be helping in a shelter? Red Cross looking for West Flemings en masse

The new emergency reception center for asylum seekers in Sint-Laureins, East Flanders, will open its doors before the end of the month. Like their 19 other reception centres, Belgian Red Cross-Flanders operates the center on behalf of Fedasil.

“Emergency high”

Despite the fact that several other new centers have already opened in recent months, the need for additional reception places remains very high due to the current refugee crisis. “The opening in Sint-Laureins is of course only one piece of the puzzle, but it is an essential piece. So we are now looking for a lot of new employees. Together with the vacancies in our other reception centers in the region – Eeklo, Bruges, Wingene and Sijsele – we are looking for about 40 West and East Flemish colleagues, although three quarters of them are for the new emergency reception centre,” says Els Claes of Belgian Red Cross-Flanders.

Motivation as important as experience

In Sint-Laureins, there is a wide range of different jobs: day and night attendants, nurses, logistics staff, guardians for unaccompanied minors, deputy center managers, a maintenance worker, an integration worker and a financial-administrative worker. In the reception centers of Eeklo, Bruges, Wingene and Sijsele they mainly look for supervisors.

“Our future colleagues must above all like to work for and with people, and look at other cultures with an open mind. They will end up in a varied working environment with diverse employees and residents. Motivation is at least as important as experience. Knowledge of other languages is an asset. plus.”

On Thursday 8 September there will be a job day in Bruges (Dirk Martenslaan 11). Candidates can apply here Sign Up.
