Iran’s World Cup campaign is set to begin against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15. If both the United States and Iran finish second in their respective groups, the countries could face each other on July 3 in a playoff game in Dallas.
If Iran does not participate in the World Cup, another Asian country will take its place. Based on the qualifiers, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq are in the strongest position.
