Will the Arctic Monkeys do a Bond song soon?

In an interview, Arctic Monkeys’ Matt Helders suggested that bandmate Alex Turner would be quite capable of delivering a Bond song. The drummer revealed to “NME” on Friday (December 9th)., that the idea of writing a song in the Bond style comes up again and again because of the group’s orchestral sound. In addition, the musician spoke about the recording process of the latest work “The Car” (2022).

Arctic Monkeys goes James Bond?

At one point in the conversation, Helders was asked if the band had considered trying a James Bond song given the cinematic, orchestral sound of their last album. “I’m sure we’d still be interested in it, but I don’t think it’s been officially proposed,” the musician replied. “However, it’s almost like Alex is already writing Bond themes, it’s just that there isn’t a film out there that his songs are suitable for! But I’d say it definitely has a Bond song in it.”

Turner said in 2011, “I’d love to do a song for Bond. Definitive.” The comment came shortly after the frontman released a soundtrack EP for the film Submarine (2010), which was directed by Richard Ayoade. As the group has since evolved musically, many fans have already suggested that an Arctic Monkeys song would fit well with the world of the spy franchise.

Musicians who have composed a Bond theme in recent years include Billie Eilish, Sam Smith, Adele, Alicia Keys & Jack White and Chris Cornell.

The recordings for “The Car”

Elsewhere, the drummer spoke about the experience of bringing an entire orchestra into the studio for “The Car.” “Anything that was the band’s responsibility was traditionally handled by us, as we’ve always done, but the strings were added separately,” he explained. Our review of the record is here.

“It was a different kind of recording process, but one I’ve always wanted to explore. Recently we had the opportunity to do these radio sessions with six people from an orchestra to try and play some of these new songs live. I think what we learned is how disciplined we can be and how much we can [das Orchester] in the music.” Helders added, “On the record it comes in and goes out when it’s appropriate – there’s just the right amount of strings on it.”
