The 2022 Oscar Awards found their owners on the night of March 28. The night held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles was marked by Will Smith’s slapping to comedian Chris Rock, rather than the winners.

Will Smith, who slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage after he made jokes about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s haircut due to his ‘alopecia’ disease, and when he returned to his place, he went back to the stage; “Don’t mention my wife’s name,” he yelled, and repeated the same phrases more harshly, blocking Rock’s attempt to explain.
When the 53-year-old actress took the stage to receive her award, she apologized in tears and said, “I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to my nominees. This is a good moment.” It was noteworthy that Smith did not apologize to Chris Rock, whom he slapped.

Smith, who broke his silence after the events, shared an apology message on his social media account and said, “Violence of all kinds is poisonous and destructive. My actions last night are unacceptable and unforgivable. Jokes are part of the business, but a joke about Jada’s health was too much for me and I was emotional. “I want to apologize to you in public, Chris. I crossed the line and I was wrong. I’m so embarrassed and my actions don’t show the man I want to be. There should be no room for violence in the world.”
Smith, who subsequently resigned from the ‘American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’, which gave the Oscar Awards, said, “I betrayed the Academy’s trust. I deprived myself of the opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary efforts of the other nominees and winners.”

Evaluating what had happened, the Academy delegation had met virtually in the past weeks to discuss the disciplinary action against Will Smith. With the new decision taken; Smith was banned from Oscar galas and other Academy events for 10 years.

While the projects of 53-year-old American actor Will Smith were canceled one by one, a statement came from his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith. “I never said I needed protection,” Jada said, adding that Will Smith’s attitude at the ceremony was exaggerated.
