Sandra Schuurhof is not afraid that AI will replace her, but is this worrylessness justified? Time will tell. “We still have too much aversion to those things,” says the royalty fan himself.
The Kids Top 20 suddenly has an AI presenter and that does not go down well with her ‘colleagues’ in the television profession. Sandra Schuurhof, the regular face of Hart van Nederland and the royalty chatter of Shownieuws, chimes in Party know that she doesn’t like it at all. Presenters are all about character, personality and humanity, she believes.
Sandra protests
An AI person does not have all those qualities, she says. A defensible position, but how much character is needed to report that Máxima is wearing a tiara from 1683 and looks beautiful?
In any case, Sandra is not worried. She says about the AI presenter of the Kids Top 20: I find it quite bizarre. At the same time, I also understand that experiments are being done with it. We have Al music, there are even Al books being published, so in a way it is not surprising that Al presenters are now also appearing. But personally I don’t like it at all.”
Character
According to Sandra, she and her colleagues are irreplaceable. “At the end of the day, presenters, reporters and experts are about conversations, about character and about personality. I honestly don’t know if Al has any personality at all.”
AI will never replace human TV stars, she thinks. “I really don’t think people are going to watch a talk show en masse that only contains non-personalities.”
Opinions
Ultimately, Sandra thinks, people in the country want to know her opinion. “People choose a program because they find the people in it interesting. Because they value their knowledge, because they want to hear their opinion or because they have been watching them for years. An All-person does not have that.”
The TV viewer will also protest, she decides. “I think we still have quite a bit of aversion to these kinds of developments at the moment. When you watch television, I think you also want to watch real people. Why else would you watch TV? Ultimately, television is people watching.”
Short term
So there will be no AI version of Sandra on SBS 6? “No, I am not afraid of being replaced by Al. Certainly not in the short term.”
She concludes: “If people still watch television, I think they mainly want to see real people.”
