Will Roman Abramovich buy a traditional club?

Roman Abramovich was at the helm of Chelsea for almost 20 years. But the oligarch has been heavily criticized for his connections to Russian ruler Vladimir Putin. Therefore, the 55-year-old wants to sell the London club in the near future. Apparently, Abramovich is already looking around for a new “toy”.

Roman Abramovich has not yet been able to give up Chelsea. Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the pressure on the oligarch has grown. The Blues owner is now on the British government’s sanctions list. As a result, Chelsea FC currently has to comply with strict regulations.

For example, the Champions League winner is not allowed to sell tickets for home games in the Premier League. In addition, player transfers, contract extensions or the sale of fan articles are not permitted.

Abramovich has already announced that he wants to sell the club after almost 20 years. In the meantime, numerous interested parties are said to be queuing. A decision is expected in the near future.

Turkey club apparently has Abramovich on the list

Abramovich himself could remain involved with football in the future. After all, the Russian should now have the opportunity to join a Turkish club.

How “fanaticism” reports, Abramovich’s representatives are said to be holding talks with Göztepe Izmir. The Süper Lig table 18 is looking for a new club leader after the announced withdrawal of President Mehmet Sepil. Abramovich of all people is said to have caught the traditional club’s attention.

Since Turkey is not a member of the European Union, the same sanctions against the Russian oligarchs do not apply there. Like the British government, the EU reacted to the war in Ukraine with tough measures against Putin supporters.
