Richard Groenendijk finds it very annoying that everyone keeps asking him to rid our country of Cornald Maas as the eternal commentator of the Eurovision Song Contest. “I know him!”

© SBS

Somehow Cornald Maas has managed to maintain himself as a commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest for years and years. He is not popular, because he always tackles the job very dryly, as if the music fair is a matter of life and death. However, he will not be attending next year, because AvroTros is anti-Israel and has therefore canceled.

Great tour

The TV broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest will now be provided by NOS and NTR and they are looking for a new commentator. Richard Groenendijk is frequently tipped. Does he like it?

A reporter from Show news he asks. “I once said that I would really enjoy doing it, but that won’t happen this year anyway, because I’m on a really big tour.”

Very annoying

Richard does not want to go along with the suggestion that he would be a better option. “What’s so funny is that on certain sites Cornald and I have been played off against each other for a year and a half, which I find very annoying and which Cornald finds very annoying, because we are just friends with each other.”

A reassurance for Richard: Cornald is not averse to a bit of heating. Anyway: in the future maybe? Just the two of us, if necessary? “I’ve mentioned it before. I once said: ‘Joh Cornald, I’ll go with you.’ But no, I’m just stuck in Hairpsray until June 1.”
