Will Ralf Rangnick become Austria’s national coach after all? It should be resolved on Friday

ÖFB denied the first report

The Austrian newspaper “Kurier” once again focuses on Ralf Rangnick as the alleged new team boss of the ÖFB national team. According to the last report, the association had denied a meeting alleged therein. This time, the adviser to the coach who is currently temporarily responsible at Manchester United did not want to confirm the “speculation”.

The paper wrote on its online presence about the approaching “sensation”: President Gerhard Milletich wanted to present Rangnick to the presidency on Friday as “the favorite” for the post. The meeting begins at 11 a.m. An hour later, according to the report, it could already be determined whether Rangnick will succeed Franco Foda, who resigned this year.

Rangnick’s advisor Martin Hägele told the German Press Agency on Thursday that, as always, he would not take part in speculation. In this context, he also referred to the newspaper’s previous report, according to which the association issued a denial. There it was said that Rangnick supposedly met ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel in London at the beginning of the month.

The Austrians failed to qualify for the World Cup finals in Qatar at the end of the year. Foda then announced his departure. The now 56-year-old former Bundesliga professional had trained the selection since November 2017. In the search for a successor for the German coach, the association was recently in contact with former Bundesliga professional Andreas Herzog and former Bundesliga coach Peter Stöger.

After this season, Rangnick will only be active as a consultant at Manchester United when the contract of the 63-year-old native of Swabia expires as a coach at the traditional English club from the Premier League. The Dutchman Erik ten Hag will take over the post at the “Red Devils” from him.
