Horinese Jordi Meester (39) is a football player from home, but during his work as a sports advisor for municipalities he was invited to a clinic. He was immediately sold: “I thought it was really cool, there is a market in it. You can play it from young to old.”
A ‘virus’ that he decides to spread further and now gives several clinics. “I am being asked more and more often. With word of mouth, I hope to make this sport more and more popular. In America they play it in the lunch breaks, for example. It would be wonderful if we could get that here too.”
Is there room for another racket sport?
But how realistic is that? Certainly if you know that PickleBall, for example, has to compete with tennis, but especially with Padel: the fastest growing sport in the Netherlands. “It may not be as big as Padel, but I firmly believe that it will also be popular here. It is easily accessible, dynamic and enormously suitable for people who are less mobile. So you serve different target groups.”
