Will half the Bundesliga play in Europe soon?

With Eintracht Frankfurt and Rasenballsport Leipzig, two clubs are currently in the semi-finals of the Europa League. Should one of the two teams win the tournament, this would also affect the German starting places.

The Bundesliga can look forward to five starting places in the Champions League next season. After all, should Eintracht Frankfurt, who met yesterday in Barcelona sensationally qualified for the semi-finals of the Europa Leaguewin the title, they would automatically be eligible for the premier class.

Eight Bundesliga teams could play European

Since Eintracht is currently in ninth place in the Bundesliga, it cannot be assumed that Oliver Glasner’s team will still qualify for the Champions League via the league, the Bundesliga would get an additional starter in the coming year with Eintracht. This means that FC Bayern (1st place), Borussia Dortmund (2nd place), Bayer Leverkusen (3rd place), Rasenballsport Leipzig (4th place) and, as Europa League winners, Eintracht (9th place) would be eligible to participate.

In general, the first four teams in the Bundesliga qualify for the Champions League and the fifth and cup winners for the group stage of the Europa League. The sixth may participate in the playoffs for the Conference League.

Should the DFB Cup winner (Leipzig and Union Berlin as well as HSV and SC Freiburg duel in the semifinals) end up in the top six teams in the Bundesliga, seventh place would be enough to reach the Conference League playoffs. If this happens and Eintracht Frankfurt, as a potential Europa League winner, does not end up in the top seven teams, then the Bundesliga would be represented internationally with a full eight teams in the coming year, i.e. almost half the league.
