Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen have been the clear number one in the betting statistics at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Iltalehti found out how precisely the betting statistics have correlated with the final result in recent years.
In 2018, bettors strongly believed in the victory of the Israeli Neta. This time the statistics were right for the winner, when Netta cleaned the table in the final Toywith his song.
However, the final top ten in 2018 looked different from what bettors predicted. Only four of the songs that excelled in the top ten of the betting statistics made it into the final top ten.
The biggest surprise was Eléni Fouréira from Cyprus. Artist’s Fuego-song came second in the competition, but the bettors didn’t believe it. In March 2018, the song was only twenty-fifth in the betting statistics.
Surprise
Betting statistics also predicted the winner in 2019, when Duncan Laurence of the Netherlands won the fives Arcadewith his song. When the fives returned in 2021, the betting statistics didn’t even hit the mark.
At that time, the Italian group Måneskin and the song were crowned as the winners Zitti e buoni. A month earlier, however, the betting statistics did not have the same amount of faith in Italy’s chances. The rock group ranked fifth in the betting statistics.
For the next few years, the statistics were favorable to the winner. Last year, however, the situation was different.
In 2025, bettors predicted a win for Sweden’s representative, the Finnish-Swedish group KAJ Bara Bada for bastu. The song finished fourth in the final. The runner-up in betting statistics, Austria’s JJ Wasted love was crowned number one.
The betting statistics are therefore often correct, but not always. A win for Finland may therefore be possible, but the betting statistics cannot be fully trusted.
