The return of Baantjer, the classic police series from the 90s, evokes nostalgia, but at least as much skepticism. “Who is still waiting for a series from antiquity? Young people not at all!”
Paul Römer, son of the original protagonist Piet Römer and now a writer of the book series, is talking to Talpa and De Fontein publishing house about one revival van Baantjer. “The intention for a new series has been pronounced and the negotiations are ongoing,” he says. “But there are many hooks and eyes on the restart.”
Important brand
Gooische Women and Medical Center West have shown that it is possible, says Paul. According to him, there is also a lot of life in the brand. “The book series was rebuilt after a dip through the death of Appie (Baantjer, the original writer, ed.). It is an important brand.”
Yet many people see it gloomy. It rains critical reactions on the platform Nujij. “I used to look, in the absence of better, we will say, but I wasn’t a big fan of it. A bit old -fashioned and who is still waiting for a series from ancient times?” Says one Jodela. “Young people certainly not.”
Fixed pattern
René also finds it too old -fashioned. “The previous series in the 90s were already old -fashioned. Standing grid with a Dutch celebrity, throwing the hat, angry commissioner, consultation in the cafe and at the end the explanation of the kitchen table. Then we had only a few reasonable series on television.”
Nowadays there is much more and much better offer, he continues. “Now with hundreds of really good series on streaming services, I am no longer waiting for a restart of Baantjer and Flodder. Make something new.”
Not original
Drasta does not think it is not original. “It is apparently the time in which we live that everything has to be taken out of the old box. New ideas are scarce next to the misery that is on TV nowadays. I almost never turn on the TV in the evening because otherwise I am worse.”
Peerke thinks the makers should change a lot. “You could put each episode one on one next to each other, making the prediction value very high.”
Beautiful memory
It is a shame when Baantjer goes down in history as a weak bite, says Roaden Haan. “Baantjer was a very nice series and the books were even more fun, but in this time it will seem very old -fashioned. Keep the beautiful memory alive and let it go.”
All in all it is hopeless, Angela concludes. “A few years ago RTL made a prequel film from Baantjer and a TV series of some episodes. This project also stopped because almost no one was waiting for it despite the reasonably good cast.”
