Wilfred Genee is under fire because he chased Dick Advocaat out of the studio of VI Today. Or is it all a media stunt by sponsor Toto? Many viewers think so.
Dick Advocaat was one of the studio guests of VI Today yesterday, which 985 thousand people watched. Just before the last commercial break, presenter Wilfred Genee announced that he had a surprise in store for him and after the commercial break Dick had suddenly disappeared from the studio. “He ran away,” said the presenter.
Wilfred under fire
After the broadcast, VI Today posted a fragment online of what happened during the commercial break (see below). Wilfred forced Dick to don a cape and crown from sponsor Toto, but he didn’t feel like it. In the end, he decides to run away from the studio.
It provides Wilfred with a torrent of negative reactions. For example, Jochem van Gelder retweeted: “The only real ‘dick’ is Wilfred Genee. What an embarrassing display. Respect for the action of Dick Advocaat!”

Ton F. van Dijk, former channel boss of NPO 1, also reacts with irritation. “The daily talk show offends top guest Dick Advocaat and is proud of it. The annoying thing is that these kinds of incidents are rewarded with attention and therefore more viewers. Spoiler: That’s why they do it. Guests are subordinate to the numbers.”
However, he also does not rule out the possibility that this is a set-up. “Of course it could be a setup. Bottom line: It’s always about the fuss and less and less about the content. You have Dick Advocaat, then you can have a good conversation with him instead of performing an act.”

According to an observant viewer, this is obviously staged. “At the beginning of the broadcast, Genee said, ‘See if Dick has acting talent.’ In other words: it was simply agreed work with Advocaat.”
