Wilfred Genee thinks Paul Römer is an incredibly hypocritical man. The TV boss is promoting his bad nephew Thijs Römer’s theater show on the radio, but: “Do you remember the candle story?”

According to critics, it is unprecedented: Paul Römer has used his position as a regular guest in the so-called ‘media forum’ of the NPO Radio 1 program Spraakmakers to promote the theater comeback of his bad nephew Thijs Römer. Thijs is a convicted sex offender, so there is a lot of resistance. But luckily for him not with Uncle Paul.

Hypocritical

Thijs has made a theater show about his past years, in which he went to jail because of his misconduct with underage girls, and according to Paul, it has become a really beautiful piece. Is this the same Paul who completely burned down Today Inside when Johan Derksen told his controversial candle story?

What a hypocrite, says Wilfred Genee. “What I find special: the man who once said that you should never be on TV again because you had told a candle story, he is now promoting this and he is also in it, I understood, as a producer or something. I read that,” he says in Today Inside.

Seedshooter

Johan Derksen agrees with that. “Yes, I think Paul Römer is such a rare seed shooter.”

Wilfred: “Then he has the finger over you…”

Johan: “It is of course his uncle and I understand that his family – all those Römer, because they have enough of them – is involved with that boy. On the other hand, I also understand that when he is on the radio, he throws that on the table…”

Promote cousin

Wilfred does not think the occasion is right. “Is that the time to do that there? You’re sitting there to talk about media and then you suddenly start promoting your cousin.”

Johan doesn’t mind that so much. “Yes, but Wilfred, we had a singer here who only promoted himself in Ahoy (Gerard Joling, ed.), you sing that shitty song here every day. It’s his uncle… Yes, they wanted to help him a little. Yes, I don’t mind that so much.”

Fake show

Wilfred then brings the conversation to the nepo football show of SBS 6, in which the children of Linda de Mol, Heleen van Royen and René van der Gijp are involved. “You don’t mind that whole networking in Hilversum with people who do all kinds of things there with family? The whole fake show that we also have now.”

No one at the table has a problem with that. Table guest Job Knoester concludes: “I think that’s such a nonsense story. My son also works in my company. His son also works at the bakery.”
