Why Robert Lewandowski always eats backwards

Hardly any footballer pays as much attention to his body as Robert Lewandowski. Even at 33, he’s in top form. This is supposedly due to his diet.

Although Robert Lewandowski is almost 34 years old, at the end of his career the Pole does not appear. He also played at world-class level last season. He scored 50 goals in 46 competitive games for FC Bayern. No wonder FC Barcelona are said to be willing to pay over €40m for him.

One reason for his outstanding performance is his fitness. Lewandowski is physically in very good condition, which earned him the nickname “The Body” from teammate Nuri Sahin when he was at BVB. What Lewandowski relies on for his diet: He eats backwards. The striker starts with the dessert and ends with the actual appetizer.

No fast food at the Lewandowski home

His wife advised him to do so because this diet is said to help burn fat in the body. Anna Lewandowska is a nutritionist and author, she pays close attention to what her husband eats – and what not. In 2019 she told the “Bild”: “We eat carbohydrates and proteins separately. In addition, only good nutritional supplements and no lactose. One of the most important things is that we do not eat fried foods. No fast food.”

All of this should help ensure that the Bayern striker can continue to deliver top performances in the years to come. And examples like Cristiano Ronaldo (37 years old, 24 goals in 2021/22) or Zlatan Ibrahimovic (40 years old, eight goals in 2021/22) show that other top scorers can still play at a high level at an older age.
