The confirmation that Free market will not be present at the Alpine Franco Colapinto for the 2026 Formula 1 season surprised both fans and the world of sports marketing. The fact was exposed with the presentation of the new car of the French team, in which the characteristic yellow logo that had accompanied the Argentine driver in recent years no longer appears.
The company clarified that it was not an abrupt decision or a conflict with Colapinto. On the contrary, they explained that the agreement with Alpine was not renewed for 2026 within the framework of a comprehensive review of its sponsorship strategy in Formula 1. In this process, the company evaluates projects, markets and investment returns before closing new contracts.
Mercado Libre also stressed that it maintains a direct and positive relationship with Colapinto, whom it will continue to accompany individually. Support for the driver is not in discussion, although the sponsorship format has changed and no longer includes a visible presence in the Alpine team car for next season.
Another key factor is the brand’s regional expansion within the category. In parallel, Mercado Libre added the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto to its portfolio of supported drivers, a decision aligned with the strategic weight of the Brazilian market and with a logic of diversification of investments in Formula 1.
The link between Colapinto and the company had begun when he arrived in the top category, first with Williams and then with Alpine, becoming one of the most visible cases of association between a Latin American brand and an Argentine driver in the elite of world motorsport. That stage, however, has now entered a different phase.
Thus, the absence of the Mercado Libre logo at Alpine 2026 does not mark a definitive break, but rather a change in focus. While Colapinto faces its new sporting challenge, the company redefines how and where to position its brand within an increasingly competitive global scenario.
