Pricing for can pea soups is amazed.
The reader of Iltalehti made a confusing attention on the shelf of the store: the breeder vegetable pea soup is priced more expensive than the traditional meat -containing pea soup of the same manufacturer.
For example, in S Group stores, a traditional pea soup weighing 435 grams costs € 1.45, while vegetable pea soup of the same size can be shelled at € 1.85. The same phenomenon is also reflected in K-food stores. For example, in K-Citymarket Easton, traditional pea soup costs € 1.85, while vegetable peas soup is € 1.99.
How can carrot and onion pea soup cost more than meat containing?
S Group Market Shop Sales Manager Mikko Kovalainen says he does not comment on the pricing of individual products. However, he can tell about pricing at a general level.
– The S Group’s operations are constantly based on the most affordable price level, and Vege or plant-based products are not an exception. Generally, retail prices are affected by, among other things, the purchase price, logistical solutions, product sales volumes and, for example, the loss of the product.
The traditional pea soup of 435 grams is the most popular pea soup of the breeder. Processor
Managing Director of Lunden Oy, who owns a breeder brand Lauri Lunden says that the retail trade prices the products they sell independently. At a general level, however, Lunden notes that, in addition to the cost of raw materials, many other factors affect the final cost of the product and, consequently, pricing.
– In pea soup, for example, production volumes have an impact. The traditional pea soup of the processor in a 435 gram pack is by far our most popular pea soup. Its production volumes are the highest and we will also make it most efficiently.
The traditional pea soup of the processor has already had a commendable age. It was launched in the Olympic year in 1952.
Finns prefer a meat -like version of cans in cans. According to Kovalainen, the share of meatless pea soups in the S Group’s stores accounts for less than 10 % of the sale of jar soups. The proportion of meatless soups has remained stable in recent years.
