Martien Meiland does not understand that his daughter Maxime, who screams just as loudly, has been targeted by critics for years, he says in the Weekend. “Why is she always the troublemaker?”
The Meilandjes stop their soap Chateau Meiland and, according to the family, this is partly due to the ugly reactions that Maxime Meiland receives to her rape case. The Meiland daughter accused a man of raping her in her book, but there is no evidence of this. She is angry that he is now suing her.
‘Always the pisser’
Wouldn’t Maxime have simply chosen not to publish that book? Papa Martien says in the Weekend: “Of course! I fully support that. In the beginning, Maxime received messages from many girls, but also boys, who were afraid to report it. But of course you should always do that.”
Yet Maxime could have prevented a lot of misery with that. “Yes, but she is always the troublemaker. Terrible! There are celebrities about whom you never read anything, but she only has to say something… I have no idea why. But she has now ignored it. Fortunately. It still has an impact. But Maxime is strong!”
64 years
Ultimately, life is about happiness, Martien believes, and that is why they quit their TV soap. He considers himself fortunate to have turned 64 years old. “Yes, the year I was so afraid of, because I thought I would die. But I met a medium and he made it clear to me that I should not worry at all.”
“He said: ‘You have a very long life.’ And so I then boarded a plane to London. I was pouring sweat, but I landed safely.”
