Princess Alexia and singer Antoon consciously choose not to deny their love affair, thinks royalty journalist Rick Evers. “Maybe that is precisely the tactic of both.”

It almost seemed like a set-up: Princess Alexia decided on Budget Day and square public to get into the car with singer Antoon. Since then, there has been much speculation about a possible love affair. At the beginning of April, the media managed to ask one of the two about it for the first time, because then the singer was sitting at Eva Jinek’s talk show table.

‘What do you think?’

Alexia was also asked the question last week, during the photo moment of the Oranjes. There, a reporter from RTL Boulevard dared to ask the question. “There is a lot of commentary about it online. Too private,” notes royalty journalist Rick Evers in his column in the Weekend.

Rick thinks that’s hypocritical. “Their alleged relationship remains a topic of conversation that I too receive questions about almost every day. ‘What do you think, are they dating?’ Many want to know. But when the question is finally asked, many find it too private.”

No denial

Alexia could of course choose not to answer, according to Rick. “And to request the RVD to have the question returned. ‘Just come up with something else’. But that was not the choice. It struck me that Alexia did not decide to deny it. Antoon also seemed to take the same path when he was in the studio with Eva Jinek.”

Remarkable, he concludes. “As long as there is no real answer, people continue to speculate. Perhaps that is precisely the tactic of both. As long as the attention is on those two, they may be able to explore their own loves in complete freedom with someone else. And then maybe next Budget Day they will get into a car together again and have a good laugh about it.”
