These encouraging numbers logically create a jubilant mood in Truss’ camp, but in practice the lead seems less solid. During ‘hustings’, debates between the two rivals in different locations in the United Kingdom, a large majority of those present expressed their doubts. In theory, Sunak could still become the first prime minister of Indian descent, although he is emphatically considered an underdog in the race.
