The damage to the submarine gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2 can only be the result of sabotage. But who is behind it? Putin? East European countries? Or just opponents of the Russian president from their own country? “Whoever can sabotage Nord Stream 1 and 2 can also sabotage Norwegian pipelines to the UK, Germany and Poland. And that would be a major disaster,” says Dutch energy analyst Jilles van den Beukel of The Hague Center for Strategic Studies (HCSS).
