Who Adrian Ravierthe man chosen by Javier Milei to occupy the presidential spokesperson, is a question that until this Friday few outside the academic and libertarian world could answer. The announcement was made by the Chief of Staff himself, Manuel Adorniat the end of a meeting in the Quinta de Olivos started around 9 in the morning: Ravier will be the new official spokesperson for the Government, while Adorni remains chief of staff.
Adrian Osvaldo Ravier was born in Buenos Aires in 1978. He is doctor in Applied Economics for the King Juan Carlos University of Madridwhere he was a disciple of Jesus Huerta de Sotoone of Milei’s own leading economists. He also has a degree in Economics from the UBA and master’s degree ESEADE. He taught for more than two decades at the UNLPamhe CEMA and the Francisco Marroquín University of Guatemalaamong others, and currently teaches Macroeconomics in UCEMA. He co-wrote with Milei the book “The Battle for Macroeconomics” and is one of the main disseminators of the Austrian School in the Spanish-speaking world.
Their positions on the situation are clear. In public statements last May, he maintained that the President found the country “in a state of fiscal, monetary and exchange imbalance” and that two years later “we see macroeconomic balances and a significant drop in poverty.” He was also direct about the labor market: “There is no economic crisis in Argentina. There is no recession because the GDP is increasing. The unemployment rate is 7.5%, one of the lowest values in history.” And on the horizon, he stated: “I don’t know of any country that has achieved progress and growth while being a closed economy.”
His leap into politics came after years of intellectual activity. presides Freedom Advances in La Pampa and has a bank in Chamber of Deputieswhich will happen to Martin Matzkincurrent Undersecretary of Federal Articulation in the Ministry of Security. It also integrates the Lighthouse Foundationthe think tank founded by Milei and Santiago Caputo to spread libertarian ideas. The judicial attack on Adorni’s assets was the trigger for the appointment: with a low profile and solid doctrinal training, Ravier arrives to oxygenate official communication at a time of high internal and legislative tension.
