Who are the latest fashion players on the second-hand market?

The second-hand model continues its triumphal march in the fashion industry. According to a studio at second-hand online store ThredUp, the segment is growing three times faster than the global apparel market. No wonder, then, that various brands are entering the lucrative segment with their own models. FashionUnited introduces you to the latest fashion players on the second-hand market.

zara

‘Pre-Owned’ is the name of Zara’s new resale platform and app. The program initially launched in the UK on November 3, 2022. This is a fully integrated platform that can be found in Zara stores and on Zara.com.

(Re)vertbaudet

To launch (Re)Vertbaudet, Smala – a leading French second-hand platform for children’s and youth fashion – collaborated with French e-commerce platform Vertbaudet. Vertbaudet has also specialized in the world of children’s fashion and together they created the new platform (Re)Vertbaudet.

Eram Group

The Eram Group, a major player in the shoe trade in France, has launched Claquettes Market. Used shoes will be sold there. “The idea came from an observation by the directors of our Eram, Bocage and Mellow Yellow brands: Second-hand is a growing market and there is demand from our customers. We observed that our different brands’ shoes could be found on platforms like Vinted. This means that our customers are reselling their items and, more importantly, there are people who are buying them,” Alexandra Gibou, who is responsible for launching Claquettes Market, told FashionUnited.

The North Face

With ‘Renewed Take-Back’, The North Face is launching a resale model in its stores. To support the initiative, the outdoor brand has been working with the archive and logistics company Tersus since May 2022.

Petit Bateau

In October 2022, Petit Bateau opened a pop-up entirely dedicated to the second-hand theme. The temporary boutique at 20 Rue Pierre Lescot underscored the brand’s sustainability-focused strategy.

Showroomprivé

With the founding of ‘Second Show’, the shopping platform Showroomprivé enters the world of second-hand fashion. With this offer, the online shop aims to bridge the gap between second-hand experts and consumers, at a time when the latter are increasingly turning to more responsible and sustainable fashion.

majesty

Uniquely named ‘Seconde Main’, the platform set up by premium fashion brand Maje [ Anm. d. Red.: französisch für Secondhand] also started in October 2022. Customers of the brand can return worn clothing directly to Maje. The items are then inspected by Maje’s teams and offered for sale. In return, customers receive vouchers that can be redeemed in stores or on the ‘Seconde Main’ website.
