The shock is still good for nature conservationists and badger lovers, after the discovery of a white substance at Dassenbesterken in nature reserve De Maasheggen near Vierlingsbeek. Karin Derikx of the Brabant Dassenwerkgroep Foundation is furious: “I can’t reach it with my cap. This really doesn’t make sense at all.”
On Friday, April 19, the forty entrances to the castle of white powder was found, probably it was poison. The indignation at the Dassenwerkgroep is great: “You don’t do this, do you?” Says Derikx. Other animals are also in danger: buns, foxes, rabbits and dogs. “Everything that lives there is struck. Mouse eats it, die, owl eats the mouse, the stuff is not selective. You poison the entire environment,” says Derikx heardingly irritated.
Tie plague
According to her, it is not often that poison is found at fortresses. Yet the hair is not completely surprised either. “There are people who think that badgers are a scourge. That is an old idea that has lingered:” They dig my pasture “or” they press my corn flat. ”
But according to her, badgers cannot be teasing at all: “Their reproduction is sensitive to stress. If there is too little food or too many other ties, a mother axle simply does not get pregnant. Nature controls that itself. People really don’t have to interfere with that.”
The construction workers of the forest
People also think that a forty caves forty means that there must be dozens of badgers. “But how big a castle is, says nothing about how big a badger family is. On average, those only live with three.”
“Sprinkling poison is animal abuse anyway,” concludes Derikx. And that while, according to her, Dassen plays a useful role in nature. “They eat mice, wasp nests, everything that is too many. They dig courses in which other animals can live on again. They are actually the bio-builders of the forest.”
Who is behind this?
Anyone who has laid the poison is still unknown. There is now an investigation and a declaration has been made. Derikx is on the plain about possible suspects. “We really can’t say anything about that. We don’t want to endanger the investigation.”
According to her, the farmers in the neighborhood are not suspected. “Those are people who have been working with us for years. There is even a organic farmer close by, who is committed to people with disabilities. They are really not going to sprinkle poison, because they are very concerned about nature.”
Living tie spotted
On Wednesday night a living tie was seen at the fortresses where the poison was found. The images of the Das provide relief within the team of the forester of the area. There was the fear that the animals would die from the poison. The images show how the tie sniffs around and lingers for a while to eat some corn. Mais that was consciously scattered to get the animal better in the picture.
