White House refuses to lift SWIFT sanctions

None of the options countering Russia is not removed from the agenda, told FOX News on an unnamed representative of the US National Security Council. This statement effectively refutes the publication in Handelsblatt, which says that the US and the EU have decided do not disconnect Russia from the SWIFT payment system.

The channel’s source said the Joe Biden administration would continue consultations on Russia’s response “if it continues to invade Ukraine.” Earlier, Bloomberg explained that Washington has to put pressure on its European partners, because in the course of numerous negotiations to agree with them on specific sanctions against Russia failed. In addition, it was emphasized that Europe considers Russia’s disconnection from SWIFT too painful for the initiators of possible new sanctions themselves, notes “Interfax”.

The US insiststhat Moscow should face very serious sanctions and economic consequences if the situation around Ukraine escalates.

Earlier, Moscow demanded legally binding and written security guarantees from Washington and NATO. In response, Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nulland said that the White House has 18 scenarios for responding to Russia as the situation in Ukraine worsens.

“The United States has 17 intelligence services and the State Department,” recalled Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the air of the TV channel “Russia 24”. “Apparently, each of these departments has its own plan and course of action.”
