The annual press gala in Washington DC, which was shocked by a shooting at the end of April, is being resumed and will now take place on July 24. This was announced by the Association of White House Correspondents (WHCA). President Donald Trump himself announced that he will be there again.

The dinner ended prematurely on April 25 when an armed man tried to enter the room. The man has now been charged with the attempted assassination of the American president.

The chairman of the WHCA has now announced that the gala will be resumed in July in a “more intimate” version. Safety features will be “significantly strengthened”.

“We cannot allow madmen to change the way we live, or even the planning of it,” he writes. “Interestingly, the location will be the Waldorf Astoria on Pennsylvania Avenue, a building and ballroom that I built.”
