The last month of the year has arrived! Can we count on a white Christmas or will we have to make do with gray clouds and rain this month? Jaco van Wezel, meteorologist at Weeronline.nlgives the weather forecast for December.

The month starts quite mildly according to Jaco: “In the first half of December, a strong south to southwest wind brings soft air. This means the maximum temperature is 5 to 10 degrees. There is a chance of frost on a few nights.” It remains variable. “We often have to deal with rain and wind.”

Winter showers

“It will remain changeable in the second half of December and it will probably get a bit colder. How cold exactly, we don’t dare say yet,” says Jaco. For real winter cold, the wind must come from the north or east, but that chance seems small: “It now looks like the wind is coming from the northwest, which does not bring real cold, but is bleak with winter showers.”

Greater chance of a white Christmas

According to statistics, the chance of a white Christmas is currently 10 to 15 percent, slightly higher than normal. “Around Christmas it will be around 6 degrees during the day and just above freezing at night,” says Jaco. “The combination of changeable weather and lower temperatures increases the chance of winter precipitation.”

Jaco concludes with: “The chance that Christmas will be green again is still the greatest, but dreaming of a white Christmas is always allowed.” Fingers crossed!
