100 million euros per year for more education, healthcare and welfare. North Drenthe and Groningen will receive this in the coming years. A compensation from the government for the damage caused by gas extraction in Groningen in this region. But where exactly does the money go? Quartermaster Henk Nijboer will present the so-called social agenda this afternoon, which states over which projects this will be distributed.

The money is part of the Nij Begun earthquake compensation program. This concerns a total amount of 3.5 billion euros. The money comes from the government and should structurally improve the quality of life in North Drenthe and Groningen over the next thirty years, reports RTV North.

The social agenda is part of repaying the debt of honor owed to Groningen and North Drenthe as a result of gas extraction. In 2023, the parliamentary inquiry committee drew the hard conclusion that the interests of Groningen residents and North Drenthe residents have been systematically ignored for years during gas extraction.

In response to that survey, the government came up with a package of fifty measures to improve the situation. One of these measures is the social agenda, for which 100 million euros is available annually.

In just over a month, the economic agenda will also be presented, with which another 100 million euros per year will go to economic projects.
