Last year’s best athletes were awarded in Switzerland over the weekend.
Alpine skiing’s success machine was chosen as the best Swiss male athlete of 2025 Marco Odermatt. An all-around athlete was chosen as Switzerland’s female athlete of the year Ditaji Kambundji. He won the 100m hurdles world championship in Tokyo.
In the Swiss media, however, the biggest topic of discussion at the athletes of the year award ceremony was the absence of one star.
Alpine star Lara Gut-Behrami was nominated for female athlete of the year, but she was not seen during the entire event. Many other candidates were physically absent from the event, but the greetings to the Swiss audience were handled virtually.
Gut-Behram didn’t even get one.
– We would have liked to speak with Lara Gut-Behram today, but unfortunately she is not available today, the hosts of the event stated in the broadcast.
The complete media silence of the people’s favorite, who was chosen as the female athlete of the year in Switzerland last year, caused great surprise in Switzerland.
The Swiss media reached Gut-Behram’s manager, who said that the Alpine star had a cold. The explanation still didn’t silence the wondering voices, because many people think that a short video greeting could have been done even when sick.
Gut-Behrami won the World Cup silver in the team competition last year. In the World Cup, he won the super-G and finished second overall.
The 34-year-old Gut-Behrami, Olympic champion and world champion, announced last summer that he would end his career this season. However, a bad injury right from the start of the season kept him on the sidelines for practically the entire racing season, so the decision to quit is no longer a certainty.
