It is also not easy for RTL’s television boss Peter van der Vorst: on the one hand he preaches love all the time, on the other you have something like that like practice what you preach. And so he doubted last September about the return of Temptation Island, one of the most reprehensible programs that RTL has ever made.

Lots of alcohol
According to Sonny, the candidates were completely crazy. “On a rainy day, when a planned pool party fell into the water, we were advised to drink a lot of alcohol. After considerable intake, a video message was shown to me, exactly when I could no longer handle it mentally. ”
And then? “The mounted images of my partner made sure that I collapsed completely. I didn’t eat and slept anymore, got tired and fell into a deep isolation. When I indicated that I wanted to leave the program several times, this was stopped by the fines clause. ”
Suicidal behavior
Sonny was not allowed to leave. “Only when my mental health visibly deteriorated and I showed suicidal behavior, could I leave without having to pay the fine. There was no question of any aftercare: I was simply put in a taxi and left to my fate. After my return to the Netherlands I ended up in a deep depression. “
He then took a dangerous cocktail from alcohol and drugs, but luckily that ended well. “After my participation, I indicated several times at RTL that it had gone way too far. Reality TV is all about viewing figures, but not at the expense of the mental health of the participants. It’s high time for change. “
