Phil Collins fights with lawyers against ex-wife and President Trump
An archive classic from December 2020.
After Phil Collins’ single “In The Air Tonight” was played at a mass rally in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 14, the drummer obtained a cease-and-desist letter against Donald Trump. As TMZ reported, his lawyers sent out another statement the previous Friday (October 23). Collins began speaking out against Trump’s misuse of his song before October.
The lawyers drafted a cease and desist declaration for the first time on June 24th. And then received no answer. Meanwhile, Trump used “In The Air Tonight” to open a mass rally.
The song’s selection was viewed by the media as an unfortunate reference to the coronavirus. And accordingly rated as inappropriate. As lawyers explained in the latest statement, Collins feared that the way Trump’s campaign used the song would reflect negatively on him. So it would damage his public image.
In addition to the cease and desist declaration, there is a lawsuit against his ex-wife
As if that wasn’t enough, his ex-wife now seems to be continuing to “stonewall”. “People” reports that Collins has obtained a lawsuit against Orianne Cevey. She refuses to leave Collins’ home in Miami Beach. According to the lawyer, he last gave her notice to vacate the property by October 12th after she married Thomas Bates in August.
According to his own statements, Collins wanted to spend Christmas there with his two sons. He accuses her of taking possession of the property. And would “hire armed security guards” to “patrol the property with firearms obviously displayed.”
Cevey’s attorney responded to the lawsuit by saying her only motivation was to stay in the house. Until a fair settlement is reached. Ceveys never prevented Collins from interacting with his children.
However, the lawyer’s statement does not end there. In the next breath he swings an all-round punch at Collins. “Instead of using hidden cameras and private investigators on the Trump campaign, Collins should come clean about his own actions and fulfill his obligations to Cevey.” Two years after their divorce in 2006, Collins reportedly paid Cevey $46.68 million.
