Everyone in the financial world is talking about it: Donald Trump’s threats and intimidation towards allies are said to be part of a grand and risky plan.

There is an essay circulating, written by the new head of Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers, that seems to prescribe in detail what Trump’s grand strategy should be. Maarten and Marike have dutifully plowed through the enormous document and discovered a far-reaching and potentially dangerous step-by-step plan that puts the dollar’s position as the world’s reserve currency at risk and, in the most extreme case, could even unleash a financial crisis. A strategy based on intimidation and blackmail of other countries. But also an insight into how the people around Trump view world relations.
