At the Japan Mobility Show Toyota unveiled the concept of the new Corolla as a world premiere, a prototype that not only represents an aesthetic evolution, but also a manifesto of technological versatility that projects the brand towards the future
A model that has spanned three decades of history: the Toyota Corollafirst produced in 1966he cut into the 2021 the goal of 50 million of examples sold throughout the world, becoming a true icon of the Japanese company. Over time the Corolla has adapted to fashions and technological developments, evolving continuously without ever losing its identity: it is therefore not surprising that the choice, implemented at Japan Mobility Showto present a new concept which, as reiterated by the designer Lance Scottis a vision of the future model that “reinvents the best-selling car of all time.” Designed to offer a variety of powertrains and configurations to meet the needs of different markets, the new Corolla will bring a wide choice of engines to the production model: hybrid (Hev), plugins (Phev) ed electric (Bev): a version with a petrol engine is also in the works internal combustionand Toyota does not rule out a thermal Corolla powered by low environmental impact fuels. The Japanese car manufacturer has already confirmed the development of a new series of engines from 1.5 And 2.0 litres which will be smaller, lighter and more efficient than the current ones. The next generation Corolla is expected on the market by the end of next year or in 2027.

The style and design of the new concept change radically, abandoning the typical composure of the current model, aligning itself with the most recent creations of the brand and following the aerodynamic and futuristic imprint introduced with the Toyota Prius. The profile is low and slender, the side shows a generous sculpting in the lower part, and the front window lowers to below the rear-view mirror, improving lateral visibility; Furthermore, the door windows are frameless and give the concept a premium touch. Also particular panoramic windshieldlarge and stretching upwards, extended above the heads of the front passengers, which creates a sense of luminous continuity, while the rear roof remains opaque and closed, accentuating the visual contrast. The front is characterized by the presence of new headlights connected to each other by a thin luminous strip. Toyota Corolla lettering is placed centrally at the rear, while both ends of the vehicle feature light bars. The car does not have a real grille, but has a small air intake in the lower part of the bumper and an air vent on the bonnet at the base of the windshield.

Inside, the cabin takes a bold leap from the current Corolla, launched in 2018. Physical buttons give way to touch sensitive keys surrounding a digital instrument panel: all controls are grouped behind the steering wheel. The gear selector, mounted high on a floating console next to the driver, evokes a layout more akin to an MPV than a traditional sedan. Dominate it minimalist style also with regards to the multimedia sector. The dashboard lacks the classic central screen dedicated to infotainment, and in its place there is a color digital display integrated into the steering columnwhich serves as the instrument panel and control center. On the sides, two lateral “wings” integrate tactile functions, including climate regulation. Each element seems designed for lighten visual perceptioneliminating distractions and reducing the superfluous: no more excess of screens or physical buttons, the concept focuses on an essential interface, entirely oriented towards the driver. The materials chosen also reflect the Japanese philosophy of purity: clean surfaces, neutral colors and soft lighting, which create an ideal driving environment in the passenger compartment.
