Unknown people in camouflage clothing, a rocket fired towards the house and a shouted “Sieg Heil” slogan.
This is the scary outcome of New Year’s Eve on the property of the couple Horst and Birgit Lohmeyer in Jamel. A small town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania that has repeatedly been in the headlines “as a Nazi village” since the 1990s. The now banned “Hammerskins” also had a regional center here.
A spokeswoman for the Rostock police headquarters confirmed the Lohmeyer couple’s statements. When an emergency vehicle arrived on site, the men had already left the property. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Further details could not be given for investigative reasons.
“Perhaps the most important festival in Germany”
State security is now investigating, among other things, trespassing, attempted grievous bodily harm, insults and the use of unconstitutional symbols.
Doctors’ stand-up drummer Bela B called the music meeting “Jamel rocks the forester” in the mini-village near Wismar “perhaps the most important festival in Germany”. The couple has been organizing the lively event with a serious background since 2007, which has been attended by the German pop and rock elite over the years. From Herbert Grönemeyer and Olli Schulz, to the Fantastischen Vier and The Prinzen to Die Toten Hosen.
There was already an arson attack on the Lohmeyers’ large barn in 2015, in which the building was destroyed to the ground.
Jamel rocks the forester on Facebook:
“We are shocked by the audacity of this trespass, which nothing excuses,” said the festival organizers in a social media message. There were several masked men and young people on the property. “They deliberately attacked the house and Birgit and Horst Lohmeyer themselves with fireworks and rockets.”
A report from Norddeutscher Rundfunk, which produced a detailed documentary about life in Jamel and the festival, said: “After the rocket attack, a child on the property apparently tried to set fire to the festival structures stored there with firecrackers to set. After Lohmeyer illuminated it with lamps, the adolescent ran away.”
The next “Jamel rocks the Förster” festival will take place on August 22nd and 23rd, 2025.
