The press conference of the Chief of Staff, Manuel Adornimarked a key moment on the Argentine political agenda. It was his first formal appearance before the media after the scandal over his trips abroad and suspicions about his assets, in the midst of a strong media and judicial pressure which had him as the protagonist during the last weeks.

The official resumed contact with the press with a clear message: he sought leave the controversy behind and organize the political front. “I have nothing to hide”he stated from the beginning, in a phrase that summarized the tone of his entire intervention. Along the same lines, he reinforced: “I worked for 25 years in the private sector. I built my assets there before entering the Government”.

The conference comes after weeks marked by complaints that focused on international travel —like a questioned move to New York accompanied by his wife—and in a alleged property in a country in Exaltación de la Cruz. These situations led to judicial investigations and requests for explanations that the official avoided responding in detail.

Adorni opted for a defensive, but also confrontational strategy. He pointed out the media treatment of the case and sought to frame the accusations within a political offensive: “They dedicated themselves to filing each of the ministers from day one. There are some ministers who, according to the media, have had more than 20 resignations. They did the same with me and here we are”.

In addition, he raised the tone against opposition and critical sectors: “Those who have lived off the State since they were born, those who stole a GDP, nor the businessmen and journalists who helped them are not going to give me ethics classes”. In that same sense, he highlighted differences with previous efforts: “No other government held a bar as high as ours”.

The Chief of Staff also sought get institutional support and set limits on his statements: “We are making all the information they need available to the Justice and control agencies”. However, he clarified that he will not respond to specific aspects: “As there is a judicial investigation underway, I cannot respond because I could hinder the case”.

In parallel, he tried to reinforce the official narrative on austerity and public ethics. He pointed out that the current salaries of civil servants are lower than in previous administrations and defended the spending adjustment as a sign of coherence with the Government’s speech.

Beyond the strictly personal, the conference also functioned as relaunch of the management agenda. Adorni took advantage of the space to refer to structural issues, such as defense policy and the anniversary of the last military coup, where he raised the need for “tell the whole story” and advance in a “national reconciliation”.

In communication terms, the impact was immediate: more than 16 thousand mentions on social networks, more than 9 thousand users actively participating, more than 400 thousand digital impacts and a growing conversation. The sentiment recorded was slightly positive (52%), with a mostly male audience (63%) and concentrated between 25 and 34 years.

In short, Adorni’s reappearance sought to close—or at least contain—one of the most delicate crises for the ruling party. However, the lack of concrete answers on the most sensitive points and the progress of the investigations leave open the question of whether this conference marks the beginning of a solution or just a new chapter in a controversy that is still far from being resolved.
