What should we absolutely do during the Christmas holidays? NH recommends budget-friendly outings

The Christmas holidays are in full swing, but what do we do now that all the Christmas dinners are over? NH News lists the best outings with the help of Claudine Brakenhoff from Alkmaar from Kidsproof. For the whole family or for the over 18s, and all for free or at a small price. While everything is getting more expensive, there are plenty of budget-friendly activities.

“Swimming or skating is always a good idea during the Christmas holidays”, Claudine knows better than anyone. On her site she keeps track of all the activities that can be experienced in the north of North Holland. But such an outing is not possible for everyone. “With a family of four and tickets of ten euros, that is not possible for everyone. And then parking costs and food are often added.”

Fortunately, a lot is possible with a small budget. Firstly, there are plenty of outings for a small price, “and if people bring their own food and drinks, that also saves a lot”. NH News lists the budget-friendly activities in the province.

Rising early in Den Helder

An activity for the youngest holidaymakers in Den Helder and the surrounding area: a morning with the animals in the Helderse Vallei. At the city farm, children between the ages of 4 and 12 can help the zookeepers on Friday, December 30, before the Valley opens. Parents have to register their children for 3 euros and can come along for free. And if families are already there, they can also join the winter bingo right away. The bingo card can be picked up free of charge at the sustainability center.

The largest Lego collection in the Netherlands in Hoorn

From 17 December, the largest Lego collection in the Netherlands can be admired in the Museum of the 20th Century. “Our storage space is still full. We have now brought eight trucks full of Lego to the museum,” Museum director Hans Stuijfbergen told NH News earlier this month. A ticket costs only 5 euros for children, adults have to pay double.

Dancing to the greatest hits of all time in Hilversum

It is the big dream of many music lovers: a visit to the Top2000 Café in Hilversum. Unfortunately, that is no longer possible for anyone who could not get a ticket. That is why enthusiasts are better off going to the market square in Hilversum for the Live 2000 tent. Live performances by tribute bands can be visited here for free. Think of the Neil Young Mirror Band, Golden Years or David Bowie or a Dutch evening with Jason Bouman.

The story of the Durgerdammer fishermen: harsh conditions on the Zuiderzee

The story of the three fishermen who floated on the Zuiderzee for fourteen days can be admired through light, image and sound in the Zuiderzee Museum. This true North Holland story from Marken and Enkhuizen dates back to 1849 and is told with a winter walk. ‘When the sea was ice’ can be seen until 8 January and can be visited daily from 5 p.m.

Museum for the children

When we ask expert Claudine about her best Christmas holiday tips, museums are the main topic of discussion. “Think of the Bakery Museum in Medemblik, where children can bake their own Christmas cookies during this period. Or the Warme Winterdagen at the BroekerVeiling museum, the test lab was opened especially for the Christmas holidays.” Children can do experiments with food here.

Last moments in the Westfries Museum

Fans should be in Hoorn for a free museum visit. The Westfries Museum is being restored and renewed, and will therefore remain closed until 2025. That is why it can be visited for free until Saturday 31 December.

And of course there is also plenty possible at home these days. Claudine knows this better than anyone: “Bake your own cookies, make a home theater, pimp your chocolate milk, you just have a little more junk in the house.”
