What is there to do in Drenthe this weekend?

For the avid beer drinkers, runners and lovers of culinary delights, there is plenty to do again this weekend. Drenthe is still reaping the last grain of the festival summer, but the activity agenda also shows that autumn has gradually set in.

This Saturday Assen is preparing for a new edition of the 4 Mile, a running race that is being organized for the fifth time. A record number of participants is expected to participate in this anniversary edition. About 1500 runners will probably start in the Anne Frank Park, after which they will follow a route through Marsdijk, nature reserves Beekdal De Messchen and De Landjes Marsdijk.

Running meters in Drenthe is already possible during the 4 Miles of Emmen of the same name, the Meppel City Run or the Hoogeveense Cascade run. The 4 Miles of Assen is also increasingly trying to manifest itself between these and other well-known names. And for those who want to taste the atmosphere, but for which walking is a bridge too far: the start and finish area is a party all day long.

In about two weeks the month of October will begin, the time of the well-known Oktoberfest which are increasingly known in Drenthe. The folk festival, which came over from Germany, now has several Dutch variants, including in Emmen. Wilkommen Love Oktoberfest Freunde, for example, on the website of the Emmer beer festival, where the Alpine sisters, Dieter Koblenz and Otto Wunderbar are announced.

For a real Oktoberfest you don’t have to wait for October and you don’t have to travel to Germany. The beer will flow, the music will sound and the lederhosen cannot be counted on one hand in Southeast Drenthe. In short: oh‘zapft is! In other words: the tap is open!
