On the website of Open Monument Day you can see a complete overview of the activities. Besides Open Monument Day, there is much more to do in Drenthe this weekend. A small overview:

The annual festival Festerica in Erica comes with something new. This year, this festival for emerging rock bands from Southeast Drenthe has an exhibition for the first time. It is about the children’s series Alfred Jodocus Kwak, conceived and written by Herman van Veen. The story about the rise and fall of the National Crow Party is told based on a self-made comic strip. This exhibition can be seen on September 10.

During Kunst aan de Vaart, on September 10, in Assen, Ron Glasbeek will present his latest project: artwork and book ‘Moeders & Daughters’. This exhibition can be seen on both Saturday and Sunday in the Aubussonhal gym at Vaart ZZ 83 in Assen. A three meter high temple is being built there with fourteen charcoal drawings on bamboo paper, seven mothers and seven daughters from the North.

From Saturday 10 September, children aged 6 to 12 can take guest lectures from the MuseumJeugdUniversiteit in the Stedelijk Museum Coevorden for the first time. They then learn more about archaeology. Guest teachers take the children on a journey through the past and present for an hour.

At Stedelijk Museum Coevorden, archaeologists and scientists explain how they conduct archaeological research, how you know how old something is and how you research what you have found. Children are also allowed to bring their treasures from the past to the lectures.

The first lecture on Saturday 10 September will be given by Stijn Arnoldussen. He is associate professor of late prehistory at the University of Groningen.

The lecture will be given from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Stedelijk Museum Coevorden. The other lectures are on Saturday 24 September and Saturday 15 October.

Saturday is also a full moon. That is why Staatsbosbeheer is holding a full moon walk at Buitencentrum Boomkroonpad. Accompanied by a guide from Staatsbosbeheer, you will then make a trip through the woods and over the heathland of the Drouwenerveld. You walk through different types of forest and are occasionally led through the forest via narrow paths. Furthermore, you walk along burial mounds, old cobblestone roads and over the quiet heathland. The walk starts at 8:00 PM. Registration is required and can be done via website of Staatsbosbeheer.

The 60th anniversary of the parade is celebrated in Frederiksoord. There are ten parade cars, five junior cars and a fairy car. There is also a children’s parade. The parade will start at 1:30 PM.
