With the Easter weekend ahead of us, there are few reasons to stay indoors in the near future. Whether you put on your walking shoes, stroll through the Easter market or prefer to take a cultural art tour. There is something for everyone!

Below you will find an overview of activities in Drenthe during the Easter weekend.

If you are a seasoned hiker or just an early bird, you can tie the laces of your walking shoes on Saturday morning and travel to Tynaarlo. There, Sportvereniging Tynaarlo is organizing a walking tour for young and old for the 51st time. Discover all the beauty that the Drenthe landscape in and around Tynaarlo has to offer.

Those who take the most steps will leave the earliest, this year from Het Oelebred primary school. The expected starting time for the distances of 30 and 40 kilometers is at 8 a.m., while the shorter distances of 5, 10, 15 and 20 kilometers will start at least an hour later. The walking day lasts until approximately 5 p.m. and everyone is welcome.

If you want to enjoy nature, but don’t want to travel on foot, you can also prepare for an excursion by bicycle. From 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., the Drentsche Aa National Park will show you along the Onneresch, through Appelbergen and to the Onnerpolder, also known as the Hunze river valley.

Enjoy a very varied landscape, with countless peat bogs on the narrow Hondsrug and the Hunze valley. During the cycle tour, a guide will tell you about the origins and eventful past of this piece of Drenthe nature; from how ice ages shaped the landscape to how farmers shaped it. The excursion is free and starts at Dorpshuis Tiehof in Onnen. Just don’t forget to register and bring your bike!

If you are still completely captivated by the Romanian helmet of Cotofenesti, which was found this week together with two gold bracelets, you can continue your curiosity at the Van der Velde bookstore in Assen. Crime investigative journalist Mick van Wely will give a lecture about his book there Robwith special attention to the theft of the helmet from the Drents Museum.

In addition to that high-profile robbery case that kept many people in Drenthe busy for over a year, come for the real one crime-enthusiasts will discuss even more impressive thefts from recent years: from the TEFAF theft in Maastricht to the diamond cracking at Schiphol. The lecture is from 12:00 to 14:30.

Kick off Easter Sunday along the monumental, thatched buildings in the museum village of Orvelte. The local Easter market in the center starts at 10 a.m. Stroll through the market, take the exit to a terrace and don’t forget to look aside at the first frolicking lambs in the meadow.
